Zoe’s Notes:  August 8th was the one-year anniversary of Mac Miller’s final NPR Tiny Desk performance. To commemorate the occasion and remember Miller, Ty Dolla $ign, accompanied by Justus West and Thundercat, covered his song “Cinderella” on Tiny Desk. TY Dolla $ign was a close friend of Miller’s and has spoken out before about his death, calling Miller his “brother” and promising to “keep his memory alive.” West and Thundercat were also friends and collaborators of the late rapper. It’s a perfect group to honor Miller’s memory, and the performance is a celebration of his work as much as it is a sad tribute. “Shoutout to Mac’s family, shoutout to his parents, shoutout to his sister, I love y’all,” says Ty Dolla $ign during the instrumental outro. “Shoutout to all his fans.” This past week, the mayor of Nashville, Tennessee, declared a citywide holiday: from here on out, August 5th will be Dolly Parton Day. Besides being a country music icon, movie star, and sassy queen, Parton is also a philanthropist and advocate who has given a lot back to her home state of Tennessee. With her Dollywood Foundation, she’s started programs like the Mountain Tough Recovery Team, which assisted families affected by the 2016 wildfires around Gatlinburg, and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which mails free books to Tennessee children from birth until they begin school. The Imagination Library was such a success that it’s been replicated around the U.S., in Canada, and in several other countries. Thanks to Parton’s incredible positive impact on education and underprivileged families, she’ll now be honored yearly in Nashville — and I wouldn’t be surprised if Dolly Parton Day spread to other cities around Tennessee.   Gabriella’s Notes: Megan Thee Stallion casually dropped a video of her next level twerking while Lizzo played a sassy flute in the background. The brief video has people wondering and begging for a collab between the two icons. This was followed by a selfie video SZA posted with Lizzo and Meg in the studio. None of the badass women involved have responded in confirmation of any speculations. But Hot Girl Summer would only get hotter with this potential song that would surely send us into a permanent heat wave. Two weeks ago, WBRU came to tell you that “Old Town Road” had matched the record for the longest running number one song on the Billboard charts ever. This week, we’re here to tell you that not only did he beat the record, he crushed it. As of right now, Lil Nas X is eighteen weeks running, and we’re here for it. Don’t get caught up in “Old Town Road” though, Lil Nas has released some other dope jams as well. I mean, have you heard “Panini?”
