New music from the Smashing Pumpkins, Travis Scott's music festival, a new Netflix hip-hop show, and more!

The Wrap-Up brings you the 5 largest music news stories of the week, plus info on new album and music video releases. 1. The Smashing Pumpkins release a new album On Friday, bombastic nineties alt-rockers Smashing Pumpkins came out with Shiny and Oh So Bright Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun., the first of their albums since 2000 to feature three of the group’s founding members: Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlain. The record’s eight songs mark a return to the grand, soaring sound that distinguished the band in the ’90s. Right now, the Smashing Pumpkins are finishing a 30th anniversary tour; they’ll be playing in the U.S. through December. Listen to their new album here. 2. Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival comes to Houston Back in August, Travis Scott announced that he would hold his first-ever Astroworld Festival in place of playing a concert in Houston. The festival was scheduled for November 17th, and Scott didn’t release the lineup until the day before. On Friday, he posted on Instagram that he would be headlining and that stars from Post Malone to Rae Sremmurd would be performing. Thousands attended the festival, which was constructed to look like the now-closed Astroworld theme park of Scott’s youth. The event was hugely successful, so we might see Astroworld Festival becoming an annual occurrence!
3. Netflix announces judges for a new hip-hop competition series Netflix’s first music competition show, called Rhythm + Flow, will debut in fall 2019 and follow the “search for the next breakout hip-hop star.” On November 13th, the streaming service announced that the show will be judged by Chance the Rapper, Cardi B, and T.I. If making it in hip-hop/meeting one of these artists is your lifelong dream, you can apply to be on the show here; auditions will happen in Atlanta, Chicago, and New York. 4. Frank Ocean makes his Instagram public  For the first time, Frank Ocean made public a secret Instagram account that he has been active on since May 2017. On November 15th, he posted a mirror selfie with the caption “Welcome.” In just an hour, the account grew from just over 2,000 followers to 80,000 as fans excitedly flocked to see and comment on Ocean’s 300+ posts. The singer’s most recent album came out in 2016, and music publications as well as fans have been speculating about whether this is promotion for an new release.

5. Migos appear on Carpool Karaoke  Hip-hop trio Migos are the most recent guests on James Corden’s Late Late Show segment “Carpool Karaoke.” The three rappers surprised Corden with a bag containing $200,000 in cash, took him clothes shopping to give him a makeover, and played toy instruments. Of course, they rapped and sang several of their own hits as well as Neil Diamond and Whitney Houston classics. To see the other hilarious bits in this episode, watch below!
