The Wrap-Up brings you the 5 largest music news stories of the week as well as information about new album and music video releases.

HEADLINES OF THE WEEK

1. Joywave released a new video

BRU favorite and also just awesome band Joywave came out with a video for their single “Somebody New” off the 2014 EP How Do You Feel. Fortunately (unfortunately?) there aren’t nearly as many naked people running around in the woods as there were in “Tongues.” (Follow that link at your own risk.) The video does, however, feature CGI effects, skateboards, and one really shocking Prius moment. Wait for 0:57; you’ll see what I mean. The band explained, “We wanted to look like we were great at some physical activity, so CGI was the only option. For the first time, we had the means to create an alternate universe in which we were actually good at something.” Respectfully, Joywave, you might not be good at skateboarding in real life, but you’re actually good at making music.

2. Kanye apologized…kind of

I never wanted to take sides in the whole Kanye/Beyonce vs Beck thing (that’s like choosing between 360 and Rock), but I’m glad to see that the debate is coming to a close. Kanye being Kanye, he doesn’t completely come out and say “Beck deserved the award,” but it is something…coming from Kanye. Is this sincere? Is it enough? You decide. For now, I’ll keep enjoying Beckeyoncye without choosing sides.

3. Lorde heads to the studio

In case you’re bored of “Royals,” but can’t get bored of Lorde (Is that even possible?), she’s going back to the studio after almost two years spent touring festivals, winning awards, crafting Hunger Games soundtracks, and killing it on Twitter. It sounds like any new music is a long way off–she hasn’t written anything yet–but we’re just glad to hear that it’s coming. Her producer Joel Little, who provided the iconic minimalist bass lines of Pure Heroine, says they’ll be back at it within the next month.

4. Brandon Flowers is back

On May 18th, Brandon Flowers (you know him from The Killers), is releasing his second solo album, a follow-up to 2010’s Flamingo. His new producer, Ariel Rechtshaid, who snagged a Grammy last year and is known for his work with a whole slew of artists: Vampire Weekend, Haim, Charlie XCX, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Madonna, Blood Orange, Major Lazer, etc. We’re hoping this collaboration has the same magic we’ve gotten used to from both Rechtshaid and Flowers. Check out the clip below for the first sneak-peek!

5. The Brits happened

I don’t know about you all, but we’re ready for awards season to end. So much drama! The music industry went out with a bang (or, in Kanye’s case, flamethrowers) at the Brits. Congrats to BRU faves Royal Blood and Foo Fighters as well as 360 fave Sam Smith for their big wins and great performances. Also, Madonna, we feel for you.
