HEADLINES OF THE WEEK

 1. The Smashing Pumpkins released new music On Wednesday, The Smashing Pumpkins released “One and All,” a guitar-heavy track reminiscent of the band’s ’90s work. The song’s lyrics discuss the feelings associated with youth. In an interview with HuffPost Entertainment, frontman Billy Corgan stated, “I basically sang the whole song the first time I wrote it. It had written itself.” “One and All” is the second song released from the band’s upcoming album, Monuments to an Elegy, which will come out on December 9. The Smashing Pumpkins’ first release from that album, “Being Beige,” can be heard below. 2. Lorde released the music video for “Yellow Flicker Beat” On Thursday, Lorde released the music video for “Yellow Flicker Beat,” her single from the The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack, which she curated. The video features Lorde performing the song in a variety of settings and different looks with her trademark jerky movements and gestures. 3. The Foo Fighters announced an anniversary stadium show and are letting you preview their new album The Foo Fighters are releasing Sonic Highways on Tuesday and you can now listen to 30-second previews of all of the album’s tracks. Regarding the sound of Sonic Highways, drummer Taylor Hawkins told NME: “We like the way our band sounds, naturally. I want drums to sound like drums, as opposed to a drum machine. We kept it as humanly perfect as possible but nothing more. It’s as perfect as we can be, which is not perfect.” To celebrate their twentieth anniversary, The Foo Fighters will headline a show at the RFK Stadium in Washington DC on July 4, 2015. The show will also feature performances from Joan Jett, Heart, Buddy Guy, Gary Clark Jr., LL Cool J, Trouble Funk, and Trombone Shorty. You can get tickets for the show HERE.  4. The Black Keys participated in their strangest interview yet The Black Keys took some time off from their fall stadium tour for an interview in Vancouver, British Columbia with Nardwuar, a quirky celebrity interviewer known for his bizarre antics. In the interview, the Black Keys talked about bobbleheads, finding black licorice in a dumpster, and their early work. 5. Kasabian will debut new music and re-release their albums On November 17, Kasabian will release a deluxe edition of their album, 48:13, which was released in America in October. The reissued 48:13 will feature two new songs, “Beanz” and “Gelfling,” along with a live DVD and CD of their June sold-out show in their hometown of Leicester. During this month, Kasabian will also release vinyl versions of their four preceding albums. 6. CHVRCHES released a new song On Tuesday, CHVRCHES released the studio version of their single for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack. The single, “Dead Air,” contains lead vocals from Lauren Mayberry and lyrics that discuss endurance and opposition to authority, two large themes in Mockingjay. 7. Lollapalooza is coming to Berlin This summer, we covered Lollapalooza in Chicago and interviewed performers, like Vance Joy, GROUPLOVE, and Phantogram. On Thursday, the music festival’s founder, Perry Farrell, announced that Lollapalooza will expand to Germany with Lollapalooza Berlin taking place on September 12-13 at Tempelhof Airport. Farrell stated, “I’m extremely excited to finally bring Lollapalooza across the pond to Europe. Berlin’s energy, vibrant art, fashion, and music scenes are a mirror reflection of what Lollapalooza is all about, and I can’t wait to share in this cultural exchange.” 8. Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig collaborated with Major Lazer For their upcoming self-titled FXX cartoon series, Major Lazer worked with Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig for a track called “Vegan Vampire.” The track features some humorous dialogue with Koenig playing a (You guessed it!) vegan vampire named Rylan. Some golden lines from Koenig include “I would never bite you. I would never bite anybody. I may be a vampire, but I’m also a vegan. Pshh, you wouldn’t understand.” 9. Tennis released their full New York City show at Webster Hall If you enjoy what you’ve heard from Tennis on Exposure, you can now watch the entirety of the band’s hour-long October show at Webster Hall in New York City HERE. The concert’s setlist features Exposure favorites, “Never Work for Free,” “Bad Girls,” and “I’m Callin’.” 10. The Cure announced two Christmas shows in London The Cure, a Retro Lunch staple, announced that they will have shows at Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo on December 21 and 22. Earlier in the year, frontman Robert Smith told NME that the band’s upcoming album will contain a combination of new songs and material leftover from 2008’s 4:13 Dream.
