1. Mitski releases third single ahead of Be the Cowboy release, August 12th Providence Show
BRU favorite Mitski has already taken this summer by storm with new songs “Nobody” and “Geyser,” and this week she dropped another single, the emotive ballad “Two Slow Dancers.” Mitski has always demonstrated a versatility in her music, with power-rockers and acoustic whispers existing side-by-side in her discography. “Two Slow Dancers” is new territory for the indie star, a muted track that swells but never boils over. It has us more excited than ever for Be the Cowboy, out August 17th, and for her August 12th show right here in Providence!
2. Ezra Koenig claims new Vampire Weekend record is finished
Vampire Weekend fans – us included – have long been waiting for a follow-up to 2013’s absolutely stellar Modern Vampires of the City; now, it seems we may be finally getting our wish. Frontman Ezra Koenig reportedly told the audience during the group’s Lollapalooza set that all that was left on their fourth LP was mastering. No word on a new single yet, so for now we’ll have to settle for listening to “A-Punk” on repeat.
3. Arctic Monkeys want to collaborate with Tame Impala
Arctic Monkeys just released Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, but it appears they’re not resting on their laurels. Via ToneDeaf, Monkeys singer Alex Turner told Beats 1 that he would be more than happy to make music with Tame Impala main man Kevin Parker (and, if Turner’s appreciation of the Australian band was ever in question, this delightful cover proves it). Parker told Beats 1 the same thing just a few weeks ago, so here’s hoping we get to see a psych-disco Arctic Monkeys album on the next go-around.

5. The Church announce Starfish 30th anniversary tour
The Church are one of our favorite retro artists here at WBRU. Their 1988 record Starfish gave us hits like “Reptile” and “Under the Milky Way,” both regular fixtures in our Retro Lunch specialty show and in general rotation. Now, the Australian outfit will tour behind the record once again in celebration of its 30-year anniversary. They will reportedly be performing the album in full, and will be hitting North America this fall.
