Regunberg announces bid for lieutenant governor

Rhode Island State Representative Aaron Regunberg announced his run for Lieutenant Governor this afternoon at the Aspray Boat House in Warwick. In front of a crowd of around 75 supporters, Democratic Representative Regunberg discussed the progress he’s made in the State House, and his vision for the future.   “I’ve been proud to help lead successful fights to raise Rhode Islanders’ wages, to expand access to wind and solar energy, and to guarantee paid sick days to over 100,000 Rhode Islanders who never had that security,” said Rep. Regunberg. He was first elected to represent Providence’s District 4 in November 2014. As a representative, Regunberg has been an outspoken advocate of progressive causes like raising the minimum wage, using clean energy, and ensuring universal access to healthcare. A number of state representatives and Providence City Council members attended, alongside supporters from across the state, who came out on this cloudy Tuesday to cheer and wave campaign signs. “I feel that Aaron shows real leadership,” said Carol Giliberto, 65. She said that she came out to support Regunburg because he is dedicated to representing marginalized voices. “I think he’s bringing important progressive views for working families to the floor and he’s been consistently advocating for that,” said Giliberto. “His concern about wages that work for working families and medical coverage is critical.” The current lieutenant governor of Rhode Island is Daniel McKee, who has held the position since January 2015. McKee announced this April that he would seek re-election in 2018.
