The unresolved state budget is hitting Rhode Island school districts. The General Assembly hasn’t agreed on a budget for this fiscal year, which started almost two weeks ago on July 1. That means that state aid to schools is frozen at last year’s spending levels. Laura Hart, the Director of Communications at the Providence Public Schools, said that the district is in the process of analyzing budget and spending estimates for this year. “There is significant concern at the Providence School District about the budget impasse. Over the long haul, it could actually be over $12 million that we could be impacted by if this doesn’t get resolved in a year’s time,” Hart said. She said that the Providence Public School District is hoping they don’t have to cut any programs from schools, but they don’t have any answers yet.
