Bill to disarm domestic abusers set for House vote tomorrow

A bill to take guns away from domestic abusers is scheduled for a vote tomorrow in the state House Judiciary Committee. “Every single month, 50 women in our country are killed by an abusive partner with a gun, and that’s just unacceptable,” said Jennifer Boylan, a volunteer with the Rhode Island chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “People who are abusive to their loved ones should not have easy access to guns.” Boylan said that her organization has been working on getting this bill passed for years, and that they’ve met resistance from gun rights groups. Opponents of the bill are concerned about due process and the Second Amendment. They are scrambling to sway the vote before the House committee meets tomorrow. The Senate Judiciary Committee is still working on the companion bill and hasn’t scheduled a vote yet.
