Three out of five Rhode Islanders want to legalize recreational marijuana. A recent poll commissioned by Regulate Rhode Island shows that 59% of voters are in favor of legalization, up from 57% in 2015.
Director of Regulate Rhode Island Jared Moffat said that now is the time to legalize, especially since Massachusetts voted to legalize last November.
“If Rhode Island doesn’t move forward and set up their own system, then basically Rhode Islanders are gonna take their money and spend it in Massachusetts,” Moffat said. “So people here are gonna have access, but we’re not gonna get any of the financial benefits.”
The Adult Use of Cannabis Act, which would legalize recreational marijuana in Rhode Island, was introduced this week in both chambers of the General Assembly.
