Today it was announced that Colonel Ann Assumpico will be the next leader of the Rhode Island State Police. She will be the first woman to lead any police agency within the state. Governor Gina Raimondo announced her selection today at the State House. “Colonel Assumpico will be a powerful reminder, to every person in Rhode Island, that everybody has a chance, and if you work hard, you can achieve your dreams,” said Raimondo.  Her appointment comes as the department attempts to increase diversity within its ranks.  Assumpico will succeed Colonel Steven O’Donnell, who retired in September. Assumpico is a Rhode Island native who has been working in law enforcement for almost 40 years.
