Today, six hundred Harvard students walked out of class to support striking dining hall workers, as negotiations resumed today. The workers are part of Harvard University Dining Services (HUDS). They have been on strike for three weeks over an increase in their healthcare costs. They have also demanded an annual income of $35,000.

Ted Waechter, a student organizer, says this is the second walkout in support of HUDS workers. “We’re not going to stop fighting until our HUDS workers, our dining hall workers, get the healthcare and sustainable yearly income they deserve,” Waechter said. Waechter says many students want Harvard to resolve the strike soon. Reports of raw meat and tinfoil in the food have students on edge. To address these concerns, Harvard has provided students on meal plan with a seventy five dollar credit they can spend at local restaurants, which could cost over four hundred thousand dollars.
