With Valentine’s Day falling on one of the coldest days of the year, Rhode Island businesses were prepared for a slower day than usual.   But the head designer of a flower shop in Providence, Danielle Clarke, says the cold posed additional challenges for florists.

“With it being negative over the weekend, we had to wrap all our flowers extra because even stepping out the door, the flowers would freeze with the temperatures,” Clarke said.  Despite the cold, Clarke says she was pleasantly surprised by business. Yesterday was as busy a Valentine’s Day as ever, with a line of customers out the door when Clarke’s shop Studio 539 Flowers opened.
