Jenn Vix, a solo electronic rock artist from Providence, knows how to create an atmosphere. Her beautiful lyrics are addressed in second person to a mysterious figure never fully described; she wears all black with rock star accessories–gloves and sunglasses (fitting, given the refrain of “Strange Buildings:” “you’re always, you’re always dressed in black”). Her voice is tinged with reverb and a light vibrato, and the Massive Attack influence is evident in the echoing drums. For the session, though, Jenn didn’t come solo: she’s backed up by bass player Paul LF and John Ashton, original guitarist of the Psychedelic Furs. Check out the trio’s session and interview below, and don’t hesitate to listen in to the new EP, “Strange Buildings,” on Spotify or Bandcamp.
