We welcomed yet another all time favorite BRU band, The Silks, back to the station last week for an intimate session with lead singer Tyler-James Kelly. Although just 1/3 of the band could make the session, he made sure it was a good one.
Tyler gave us a sneak peek at some new music that probably won’t be officially released for a few months. He played new songs “Live and Learn” and “Home” for us, as well as “Let it Ride.” The mood lighting, slight vocal delay, and Tyler’s expressiveness made for a beautiful, emotional acoustic session. If you’re familiar with the Silks’ usual blues-rock inflections, you’ll recognize Tyler’s characteristic well-pitched drawl combined with the simplicity of the acoustic guitar. He concluded with a super speedy 5 in 95–he may have the record, clocking in at just 39 seconds (although, to be honest, he had an advantage: no other bandmembers to distract him!).
Check out the rest of The Silks’ music and keep up to date with their new releases on their website. You can also catch them at Firehouse 13 on December 19th or Atwood’s Tavern in Cambridge on New Years Eve. And, of course, watch the sessions below or tune in at 9pm every night this week to catch some of their unreleased music!
