Home BRU’d veterans The Complaints joined us again at the station to record some of their latest songs. While the Providence-based band tends to have a rock sound, they stripped down their songs for us and went acoustic, kicking off the session with their original “Just Like Glass.” They had it down in just one take.
All of us (including bassist Chris Cruz and drummer Anthony Marotti!) were pleasantly surprised when singer and guitarist Dean Petrella decided that The Complaints would do their own rendition of Radiohead’s “High and Dry” for their second song. While Marotti remarked that they usually perform the song with a full band, their simpler take still rivaled the original as Petrella sang all the way up into his falsetto.
The band concluded with the brand new song “Mountains,” claiming that it was still a work in progress. The Complaints performed it flawlessly in its live debut. BRU listeners–this is your chance to be the first to hear the unreleased music.
The Complaints play free shows every Wednesday at Escada Bar, and they just released a new video for their song “Elena” off of their album Criminal Mind. Check out their videos from our Home BRU’d session below!
