Rolling into the station with one of the biggest groups we have hosted in our studio, Consuelo’s Revenge brought all of their accordion-decorated, fiddle-fueled energy to record a late September Home Bru’d session. They hail from our very own Providence, RI with a bluesy take on the more traditional folk genre. Not completely unfamiliar to our WBRU lair, drummer John Ferreira served as a Rock Hunt judge in the past, and now he’s back with a fresh, energetic, gypsy-folk jam. “All Fall Down” is the single that has already been released from the upcoming “Mercy”, so Consuelo’s revenge chose to start their session off with the vibrant tune. Alicia Ruggiero filled out the space of this track, adding some frantic fiddle riffs to complement the upbeat rhythm of the piece. They followed this up with the intimately bluesy tune referencing a gentleman known as “Jeremiah James”. Amanda Salemi’s haunting vocals filled the studio as a simple drum beat came in to support the dueling guitars. Coming to a slow end, the final notes rang out for what seemed like minutes. “Palatine Light” made the most use of Consuelo’s Revenge’s three vocalists, beginning with a painful cry to the winter months. We also got to see multi-talented Kirk Anderson swap his guitar for an accordion to keep a melodic pulsing rhythm. All 7 members of the band brought their A game, recording each song in one take with the same vigor heard on their new album, Mercy, which is being released on October 30th at Aurora Providence with guests Jay Berndt, Haunt the House, and Sara Azriel.
