The Wrap-Up brings you the 5 largest music news stories of the week as well as information about new album and music video releases. This week: LOTS of new singles, learning to drum with Jack White, and drama brewing (potentially?) between Damon Albarn and Adele.

HEADLINES OF THE WEEK

1. Chvrches drops single “Clearest Blue”

Chvrches, the Glasgow trio that has been making waves with “Leave a Trace,” the first single off their upcoming album Every Open Eye, just released another floaty, poppy synth-jam. It’s like the Chvrches we know and love…with even more energy. The album will be out September 25th. In the meantime, rock out to “Clearest Blue” this weekend!

2. Lana del Rey shares video sampler, “Music to Watch Boys to”

Lana del Rey has been incredibly generous with her single-sharing in the lead up to her fourth album, Honeymoon, which will be released on September 18th. So far, we’ve seen “High by the Beach” and “Terrence Loves You.” This week brought a new “video sampler” that revealed snippets of “Freak” and “Music to Watch Boys To”…and lots of clips of Lana in pastel-colored film, doing what Lana does best. The sampler was quickly followed by the full version of “Music to Watch Boys To.” Listen to audio below!

3. Learn to drum from Jack White in promo video for The Dead Weather album

Jack White and his band the Dead Weather are releasing a four-part, in-depth look at their musical style. The first installment, an exposé on Jack White’s drumming, came out yesterday: for all you drummers out there (or general music geeks, like we are here at BRU), this is a fascinating inside look at what goes in to creating some of our favorite songs. The clip concludes with a jazzed-up performance of single “Hang You From the Heavens.” The Dead Weather’s upcoming album, Dodge and Burn, will be released on September 25th.

4. New Decemberists EP, single “Why Would I Now?”

The Decemberists released their new album What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World back in January, but it turns out they’ve been keeping some things hidden since then: they’re about to release an EP full of unreleased music from the recording sessions for What a Terrible World, their seventh LP.  The set of five tracks will be titled “Florasongs” and will be released on October 9th. But you don’t have to wait to hear one new song: the band shared “Why Would I Now?” earlier today.

5. Damon Albarn comments on Adele collabs: “middle of the road”

In a new interview with The Sun (via Spin), Damon Albarn gives the lowdown on working with Adele on her new album–and it’s not the positivity we might expect. The frontman of Blur (and creator of cartoon band Gorillaz) reveals,
“Adele asked me to work with her and I took the time out for her… And I’m not a producer, so… I don’t know what is happening really… Will she use any of the stuff? I don’t think so. Let’s wait and see… The thing is, she’s very insecure. And she doesn’t need to be, she’s still so young.”
Granted, it sounds like Albarn has some legitimate reasons for not feeling so positive, but we’re surprised Adele wasn’t more secure! He also called some of her previous work with Danger Mouse “middle of the road.” We’ll be watching to see where this feud goes… Adele’s new album may be coming by the end of the year. Gorillaz also has new music in the works, set for 2016.   And now, your 12 Cuts above the Rest!!!
