Mike DeCosta — front-man, multi-instrumentalist, and the energy behind Tapestries — came into the station a couple weeks ago to play us three songs. Unfortunately, he had broken his leg just a few days before, but (like Dave Grohl) he didn’t let that stop him. Cast propped up on a chair, he ripped into three of his favorites from his catalog, choosing them as he went along.

Mike is relaxed while playing. He knows the ins and outs of each song, seeming to pick up each melody and each phrase with his guitar and voice, play with it, and set it gently in its place. Tapestries’ sound is atmospheric and moving. He calls it “psychadelic indie” — think Tame Impala — but it blends all sorts of pop, rock, indie, and electronic influences to create beautiful, textural music. Check out the songs, and our classic 5 in 95, below.
