Rock Hunt 2014 finalist Jetty is very familiar with WBRU. After a Home BRU’d session, Rock Hunt performances, and their opener slot for the WBRU Presents: Joywave show last fall, they’ve become one of our favorite local bands, and for good reason: their breezy summer jams are just what we need as the thermometers climb past 90.
The five-piece came into the station last week for a session to promote the first WBRU Dunkin’ Donuts Summer Concert Series show of the summer, where they’re again opening for Joywave. The session was lots of fun; they opened with “Miracle,” followed by “Pippin,” and concluded with “Used to Try.” Their songs are a little glitchy electronica, a little R&B, a little pop-rock with an intellectual feel.
Before playing the first song, someone in the band urges, “Put some emotion into it!” And they do: Yeugene’s presence fills the space as the rest of the band–including two synth players–play off each other. Even their swigs of beer are synchronized. You realize just how together they are when their instruments all seem to breathe at once, when they slide into a simultaneous syncopated pause in “Miracle.” They feel the music. Watch it ASAP (and their chaotic, hilarious, way-over-95-seconds 5 in 95) below.
BE THERE when they take the stage at Waterplace Park at 7:15 this Friday, July 17th.
