Florence + The Machine took over a last minute Glastonbury headliner spot from the Foo Fighters after Dave Grohl broke his leg at a concert in Sweden a couple weeks ago. Waiting fans still got to catch some classic Foo Fighters, though. The British singer’s trademark warble gives a new spin to “Times Like These” as the audience sings along–watch it here. Incredibly, it looks like Grohl intends to carry on with the US segment of the Foo Fighters’ World Tour despite his broken leg. They’re playing to Fenway Park for two nights at the beginning of the tour: buy tickets now!
Iron & Wine and Band of Horses’ Ben Bridewell have planned an innovative album to be released July 17th: all collaborative, all covers, featuring songs by artists such as Pete Seeger, Bonnie Raitt, and others. The first release is a cover of Talking Heads’ “This Must Be a Place,” a song (and band) that have a fond place in BRU’s heart: the members of Talking Heads met as college students in Providence over thirty years ago. We’re excited to hear the spins that this creative collaboration puts on the rest of their covers!

Ed Sheeran and the Rolling Stones, two British artists, united on this side of the pond for a rendition of “Beast of Burden.” Both artists are in the middle of huge tours right now: on Saturday, Sheeran was in town and showed up on the stage of the Stones’ Kansas City show. The twenty-four-year-old singer looked right at home playing back up guitar for the rock legends, most of whom are now in their seventies. Sheeran even shared a mic with Mick Jagger, singing the well-known lyrics of “Beast of Burden,” a classic rock song. The Rolling Stones’ Boston dates were over a year ago (Buffalo, NY is the closest upcoming show), but Sheeran will be coming our way on September 25th–get tickets here.2. 3. Bleachers covers The Cranberries at awards ceremony
Bleachers played a killer set on Logo’s Trailblazer Honors on Saturday, covering the Cranberries’ song “Dreams” and concluding with their own “Like a River Runs.” The awards show honoring pioneers, activists, and figureheads of the LGBTQ rights movement came a day after the Supreme Court’s marriage equality decision. Jack Antonoff (whom you also know from the band Fun.) performs “Dreams” in a very different register from Dolores O’Riordan, who sings at a high, breathy pitch, but the idea comes through along with an extended guitar solo. The original was released in 1992, but still sounds almost as modern as the Bleachers’ cover. Which do you like best?
4. Father John Misty shares video of Arcade Fire’s “The Suburbs”
Father John Misty’s latest release, a solo, low-key cover of “The Suburbs,” is a tribute to Arcade Fire on his own terms. As usual, it’s just he and his guitar and his extraordinary voice. He utilizes his full range, occasionally sliding into a falsetto on the high notes. For a one-man-show, especially when compared with the full majesty of seven-piece Arcade Fire, Father John Misty sure knocks it out of the park on this cover.
