Your weekly dose of genre-bending with your favorite WBRU artists/songs! From the genuinely good to the what-the-hell weird, we got you covered.
Killers frontman Brandon Flowers released his second solo album, The Desired Effect, last month and there’s no doubt that the project was heavily influenced by the 80s. Featuring the single “Can’t Deny My Love,” The Desired Effect has been praised by several music critics. Flowers is currently on tour promoting the album and he even had 2015 Summer Concert Series headliner Joywave as his opening act for his UK stops. At his Manchester show, Flowers brought Bernard Sumner on stage for a smooth performance of New Order’s classic 1986 single “Bizarre Love Triangle.” Prior to the performance, Flowers told the audience:
I remember when I was a kid, I lived in this really small town in rural Utah and nothing exciting was happening. It was when MTV used to be relevant and play great music videos. I can still see what the room looked like and what kind day it was outside, and New Order was on the screen, and I was just hooked, and it ended up having a big influence on me later.
