HEADLINES OF THE WEEK

1. Walk the Moon released their second album and performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live WBRU Summer Concert Series alumni Walk the Moon released their new album, Talking is Hard, on Tuesday and promoted it that night with a fun and lively appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The band performed their latest single, “Shut Up and Dance,” was well as their breakthrough hit, “Anna Sun.” If you experience Walk the Moon’s awesome energy in person, grab tickets to their WBRU show on April 9 at Lupo’s HERE!
2. Dave Grohl released an solo track from the 90s and revealed Kurt Cobain’s reactions to an early Foo Fighters demo
The Seattle-centric episode of the Foo Fighters’ HBO series, Sonic Highways, discussed vocalist Dave Grohl’s transition from working in Nirvana to starting the Foo Fighters. Producer Barrett Jones stated that Grohl wrote around 40 songs towards the end of Nirvana’s time, some of which were later released with the Foo Fighters. Sonic Highways played one of these songs, “Hooker On The Street,” whose sound is very remniscent of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 90s work. In the episode, Grohl also revealed Kurt Cobain’s reactions upon hearing “Alone + Easy Target,” which was released on the Foo Fighters’ 1995 self-titled debut album:
Kurt heard that and kissed me on the face, as he was in a bath. He was so excited. He was like, ‘I heard you recorded some stuff with Barrett [Jones].’ I was like, ‘Yeah.’ He was like, ‘Let me hear it.’ I was too afraid to be in the same room as he listened to it.
3. The Killer’s released a new Christmas song
Since 2006, The Killers have released an annual Christmas song and donated its profits to the (RED) campaign, which aims to fight AIDS. This year, The Killers teamed up with fellow Las Vegas native, Jimmy Kimmel, to record “Joel, the Lump of Coal.” Jimmy Kimmel Live showed footage from the recording of “Joel, the Lump of Coal,” which was full of cheesy Christmas sweaters and jokes from Kimmel. Kimmel’s show also debuted the song’s sweet and CGI-loaded music video.
  4. CHVRCHES announced that they will start working on a new album in January
On Monday, CHVRCHES told fans through Facebook that they will start work on their second album in January. They accompanied this announcement with a light-hearted car karaoke rendition of Seal’s “Crazy.” CHVRCHES have spent the past two years playing over 365 shows in promotion of their debut album, The Bones Of What You Believe. 5. Spoon filmed an episode of Austin City Limits Spoon recently appeared on Austin City Limits for the fourth time and PBS will air their entire episode on Jan. 3. The Black Keys will headline the 2015 Isle of Wright Festival On Wednesday, the Black Keys were announced as a headlining act for the 2015 Isle of Wright Festival at Seaclose Park, Newport, Isle of Wight. Joining the Black Keys as co-headliners of the English festival are The Prodigy. The 2015 Isle of Wright Festival will run between June 11-14. Regarding the Black Keys’ opportunity to become one of the festival’s headliners, drummer Patrick Carney stated, “The Isle of Wight Festival has so much history and we are really pleased to have been invited to headline in 2015 and look forward to being part of such great rock and roll heritage.” 7. The first picture of Radiohead working on their new album surfaced On Wednesday, Nigel Godrich, Radiohead’s producer, posted a photo of Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood working on the band’s new album in the studio. Godrich tweeted the image without a caption, but last month, Greenwood discussed the band’s recent work and stated, “We’re currently playing and recording and it’s fun to see everyone again, it’s been a long time coming, we’ve been waiting all of us for a long time.” 8. The Foo Fighters participated in a candid interview with Howard Stern  The Foo Fighters appeared on The Howard Stern Show to perform a few songs and participate in a candid interview, in which Dave Grohl discussed what it was like to interview President Obama, encounters with Prince and David Bowie, and removing his hostile feelings towards Courtney Love. Grohl also appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and you can watch the episode HERE. 9. U2 announced a 2015 stadium tour U2 announced that in 2015, they will embark on the Innocence + Experience Tour, a global arena tour to promote their latest album, Songs of Innoncence. The tour will stop at 19 different spots, including Boston’s TD Garden for shows on on July 10 and 11. We’ve been giving out tickets to their July 10 show at TD Garden during Retro Lunch, but you can buy tickets starting on December 8. 10. The Decemberists performed “Make You Better” on Conan On Wednesday’s episode of Conan, the Decemberists performed their track, “Make You Better,” which has been featured on Exposure recently. This performance was the band’s first appearance on a late-night show since 2011. “Make You Better” will appear on What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World, the Decemberists’ seventh studio album, which will be released on Jan. 25.
