The Wrap-Up brings you the 10 largest music news stories of the week as well as information about new album and music video releases.
Pink Floyd’s incredible musical run will be coming to an end with the release of the upcoming EP The Endless River (out November 10), which Guitarist-singer David Gilmour and drummer Nick Mason created from reworked audio recorded at the band’s last jam session in 1993 (already long after founder Roger Waters had left the group). The band has been largely off the radar for the past 20 years as Gilmour tried to distance himself from the fame of Pink Floyd and focus on his personal endeavors.
Though Gilmour is excited for this revival of old material, he does not wish to resurrect the band itself, especially since the death of keyboardist Rick Wright in 2008. “I’m really enjoying my life and my music. There’s no room for Pink Floyd. The thought of doing any more causes me to break out in a cold sweat.” via. The album is a kind of tribute to Wright as well, allowing his music to come back to life.

3. Risky business: Bleachers’ high speed new music video
Jack Antonoff (guitarist for fun.) and his newest project, Bleachers, just came out with a nerve-wracking new video for their single “Rollercoaster”. In the clip the thrill-seeking band members perform on top of a speeding old ice cream truck in order to catch the eye of a girl—oh the things we do for love!
Antonoff said about the video:
“The idea of getting on top of a car and playing on a highway felt distinctly 90s in a way that excited me about videos I saw growing up. Didn’t think it would be acutely dangerous — the breaks ended up going out and we literally almost died. There’s something special about almost dying for a video.” via.
4. Alex Turner performs new single “Vertigo”
Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner joined band Mini Mansions to perform in Phoenix last week. Turner sang the single “Vertigo,” which he recorded with the band for their 2015 album The Great Pretenders.

5. She and Him perform on “Fallon”
The duo She and Him, comprised of artists Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, appeared this week on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” to perform their cover of Dusty Springfield’s “Stay Awhile.”
They have also shared their cover of Frank Sinatra’s famous “Time After Time,” which will be included in their album Classics, set for release on December 2. Classics was recorded live and features a 20-piece orchestra. 6. Paul McCartney talks about songwriting, life and growing up
Sir Paul McCartney spoke this week to an eager young audience of Rollin’s College students in Winter Park, Florida. The discussion, led by two-time poet laureate Billy Collins, revolved around McCartney’s collaborative songwriting with John Lennon and the process of moving on after the Beatles’ insane success at such a young age. He also discussed his youth in Liverpool and how he discovered blues and jazz from British soldiers returning from the U.S. The music legend closed with a solo acoustic performance of “Blackbird.”
“I’d say, ‘It’s getting better all the time,’ and he’d say, ‘It can’t get much worse,’ I would have never thought of that..I tell students all the time, ‘Look, I don’t know how to do this.’ Every time I approach a song, there’s no rules. Sometimes the music comes first, sometimes the words—and if you’re lucky, it all comes together.” via
7. Even more Foo Fighters tracks
Foo Fighters continue to tease us with tracks from their upcoming album Sonic Highways, arriving November 10. They released “The Feast and the Famine” just before the premier of their HBO documentary series last Friday, titled Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways.
Even more recently, the band released a preview of another single, “Congregation.”
8. The Flaming Lips release new Beatles cover album
Words that come to mind when describing The Flaming Lips’ new album With a Little Help From My Fwends: trippy, collage, fun, eclectic, unexpected, electronic. The Lips got help from a whole host of artists on these tracks, the most surprising of which being Miley Cyrus, who appears on “A Day in the Life” and “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.” We get the sense that everyone had a lot of fun creating this album. 9. OK Go is back at it with insane synchronized umbrella video
Keeping with the group’s grand tradition of mind-blowingly clever and complicated music videos (Rube Goldberg machines, treadmill dancing and optical illusions to name a few), OK Go has just released their video for “I Won’t Let You Down,” off of their new album Hungry Ghosts, released earlier this month. The video required the cooperation of nearly 2,500 people and was filmed using a custom “multicopter camera.”
I’ll stop the preface there…you have to see it to believe it.
10. Haim + Calvin Harris = Awesome
Calvin Harris’ new album Motion is now streaming on itunes and includes the collaboration gem “Pray to God.” The song features the multi-talented sister-act group, Haim, best known for their song “The Wire.” The trademark elements of both Haim and Harris complement each other unexpectedly well in this brilliant track. The song itself, about the lead singer Dan Reynold’s relationship with his parents, is just as high energy as past hits like “Radioactive,” though with simpler, folkier instrumentals.
