Despite having grown up in the setting of a traditional family band, Molly Rankin and her sound are anything but familiar. In her interview with WBRU, Molly says a lot for the band seemingly “just happened.” For instance, they just happened upon being the pioneers of Fuzz Pop, a genre that Rankin still isn’t too certain about. They happened upon achieving an impressive balance between seriously mature lyrics and brightly cheerful melodies. And perhaps most notably, they apparently just happened on being one of the only successful female-fronted indie bands in the current scene, something that they prepare for by keeping a stash of “emergency chocolate.” All this seems too good to be true, but it’s not luck– the bands hard work, inventive sound, and endless spunky charm make them one to watch closely in the next few years.
Alvvays will play Great Scott in Boston on October 10th and the Outer Space in Hamden, CT on Oct. 11th
