There are so many talented musicians out there to be exposed to, so WBRU decided to bring some of them into the studio so they could show us what they got!
Hamilton Leithauser stopped by our station to sing his single and chat about debuting a solo album after 14 years of being in a band, his set at Newport Folk Fest, and what being a dad on tour is like. Check out the interview below!
The former frontman of indie band, The Walkmen, Hamilton Leithauser is taking advantage of the band’s “extreme hiatus” to debut his solo album. (He’s not the only one: bassist, Peter Bauer, and organist, Walter Martin, are following suit with albums of their own.) While I’m sure it isn’t a competition, Leithauser may be in the lead with his Black Hours boasting a pretty impressive list of collaborators. Members of Vampire Weekend, Fleet Foxes, The Shins, Dirty Projectors, and yes, even some members of The Walkmen are all featured on the freshman LP.
His acoustic set in studio, and at the Folk Fest, highlighted his rhythmic guitar style and ability to belt out some hard-to-hit notes. The single off Black Hours, which you heard first on Exposure in May, is Alexandra. Maybe it’s the drum beat that demands the audience claps along, or maybe it’s the repetition of “Alexandra” that makes it immediately easy to sing along to, but simply stated: the song is as catchy as it is endearing. Hear it acoustic below!
