We are proud to share with you all Blank Canvas, a contest giving artists the opportunity to imagine and create a 36×60″ Boston-Calling-inspired mural. Five winning works will be displayed at the festival September 5-7th — Great exposure for budding artists!
But thats not all! A total of five winners will be chosen, awarded a $1,000 cash prize (including $250 for supplies) and four 3-day VIP tickets to Boston Calling. Boston Calling promises to deliver yet another unique and exciting festival with performances by the likes of The National, Lorde, and Nas x The Roots not to mention great art!
“We are always seeking ways to extend our connection to the community and further celebrate the talents of the people that make Boston, and the entire region vibrant,” says Brian Appel, co-founder of Boston Calling. “At this past May’s festival, every time we saw a blank wall, we felt we missed an opportunity to have an artist display their work.”
More Details:
Concepts for murals must be submitted by August 5, 2014 via a one-page 8.5 x 11” digital document emailed to art@bostoncalling.com. The only requirement is that the mural must be inspired in some form by Boston Calling Music Festival, whether that be for the world class artists who grace Boston Calling’s stages, the sense of pride and community the festival generates, or simply the artists’ personal vantage point of the festival. Each submission must be accompanied with artist’s name, contact information and a 100-word description of submission.
Submissions will be judged by festival organizers with the help of the festival’s social media fans. Five winners will be chosen to create one 36×60” mural each, which will be on display at the three-day festival September 5-7, 2014. All submissions must be two-dimensional and should take into consideration the fact that they will be displayed outdoors. Winners will have four weeks to create their mural; they will be notified by August 12, 2014. A complete list of contest rules can be found at www.bostoncalling.com.
