Annual Earth Day Concert with Bleachers and Jetty

This past Tuesday, Bleachers rocked The Met at WBRU’s Annual Earth Day concert. The night kicked off with a meet and greet with Jack Antonoff, where fans including yours truly got to meet and take fun photos with the band’s lead singer! 2014 WBRU Rock Hunt finalists, Jetty, opened for Bleachers with a performance that reminded us why we loved them in the first place. “It was like they were here for us,” said Jetty lead singer, Yeugene Barokha, following the band’s performance. Jetty was honored to be able to open for Bleachers and was even a little star struck to meet the former Steel Train lead singer, Jack. Most of the audience may have come because of Bleachers, but Jetty captured their attention. Even though we’ve seen and heard them before, they bring something new to each of their performances, constantly keeping us entertained. Then, the lights dimmed and the room went dark. The anticipation was tangible as Bleachers took the stage and started playing. Their timing was perfect—everything was in sync. The lights came on at the top of their first crescendo, and the crowd ate it up, cheering. The light revealed that Jack had changed since rehearsal, replacing his “No Comment!” sweatshirt with a t-shirt and his signature blue jacket. “Thank you guys for coming to see a band that’s released one song,” Jack told his audience in reference to the fact that a sizable crowd showed up. Why wouldn’t they? Jack and his group live is an experience everyone should have. Bleachers performs as if the music overwhelms them. They move around as if they just can’t be still. This is how music is meant to be played—letting it control you and erupt from the deepest parts of you. There was no encore since, by the end of the night, Bleachers had played “every song (they) know how to play” as Jack had explained earlier but we definitely got out moneys worth out of this memorable set!
