Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd, released his new album, Kiss Land, on September 10th. Kiss Land adds some dark, psychedelic depth to the panty-dropping ballads we’ve come to expect from The Weeknd’s first three mixtapes. It’s a little indie and a little edgy. With one foot in R&B and the other in a hipster fairyland, this album falls squarely into the come-up genre of PBR&B, a fusion of R&B and alternative pioneered by artists like Solange, Frank Ocean, and Janelle Monae.
