To kick off WBRU’s 90’s week, we bloggers are bringing you all of the greatest news from the annals of music history, one day at a time. Today, March 25th has some interesting news from that great decade to reminisce about.
In 1990, Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee was arrested in Augusta, Georgia for mooning the audience (allegedly, but I mean, come on, it’s Tommy Lee). A year later, Michael Jackson escorted Madonna to the 1991 Oscars, where she would take home an Oscar for her song “Sooner or Later” from the film “Dick Tracy.” Music history seemed to ignore March 25th, until 1995 when a riptide carried Eddie Vedder 250 feet offshore while he was swimming in New Zealand. Luckily for alt-rock and WBRU music, he was rescued and Pearl Jam would go on to produce six more albums.
That’s it for March 25th’s music history. If that’s not enough for you, we will be bringing you more and more history as 90’s week continues on BRU. Let’s leave today reminiscing about a song that helped usher in the grunge explosion that defined the 90’s—Nirvana’s Smell’s Like Teen Spirit.
