Jack White just released the video for the second single off his first solo album, Blunderbuss, to be released April 24. The “Sixteen Saltines” video is a dramatic departure from the self-directed video for the first single, “Love Interruption,” which shows White and Ruby Amanfu performing the song with two other women and a cute dog. This video features White in a world ruled by children and teens that seem to have respect for absolutely nothing, even their own safety. Some of the teen’s actions are funny- a group of boys jump to eat bread stuck to the ceiling with peanut butter, some are rather confusing- a girl spits a blue drink on the teen waiter at a restaurant while kissing him, and some are very disturbing- a boy tries to suffocate himself with a plastic bag until a girl races over and pulls it off. In an interview with the New York Times Magazine, White said “This generation is so dead. You ask a kid, ‘What are you doing this Saturday?’ and they’ll be playing video games or watching cable, instead of building model cars or airplanes or doing something creative.” We can only hope the “Sixteen Saltines” video is not a compilation of suggested “creative” things. The video ends with perhaps the most disturbing action- White is tied up in a car while a boy painted blue pours gasoline all over the roof. The boy pulls out a lighter as White is singing “who’s jealous of who?” I know I certainly am not jealous of him in that predicament. Watch the entire video below:
