Bon Iver, a band that has positively exploded since the release of 2011’s Bon Iver, named Pitchfork’s best album of the year, has released the video for their latest single, “Towers.”
If you were holding out hope that the video would provide any clarity as to what the song is about- you don’t know Justin Vernon well enough.
To illustrate a track that has been rumored to be about everything from a college dormitory to losing belief in the existence of fairy-tale love, Vernon sends an old man walking through the forest carrying two mysterious objects made of sticks (a dream catcher? a net? a tower?). The man makes his way to the ocean where he paddles out to massive wooden structures that crumble into the sea at the end of the clip.
Though the song may still be unclear (both lyrically and in meaning), the video, directed by NABIL, is a beautiful piece of art.
