1. Radiohead is recording new music On Tuesday, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke posted a sequence of cryptic tweets telling fans that they have been recording new music in the studio. Yorke stated that he was working with artist Stanley Donwood, who, since 1994, has created Radiohead’s poster and album artwork. He also posted a picture of lyrics to “A Wolf At the Door,” a track form their 2003 album, Hail to the Thief. These recordings could lead to the band’s ninth album, their first album since 2011’s The King of Limbs. 2. Weezer release new song and announce a fall tour Last week, we revealed that Weezer released a clip of a new song, “The British Are Coming,” which was accompanied by a mysterious video. On Tuesday, Weezer released the full song to fans who pre-ordered their ninth album, Everything Will Be Alright In The End, which will be released on October 7. “The British Are Coming” is remniscent of their work from The Green Album, boasting an anthemic chorus and a memorable guitar solo. Frontman Rivers Cuomo sings lyrics from the perspective of a Patriot in the American Revolution who demands action taken against “Redcoats trying to run the show.” Weezer also announced a fall tour with certain dates (marked by +) featuring the band playing Everything Will Be Alright In The End in its entirety. The Black Keys perform Edwyn Keys cover and new single for The Tonight Show
On Monday, fresh off of their Sunday TD Garden concert (that some lucky WBRU listeners attended), The Black Keys visited The Tonight Show and performed their new single “Gotta Get Away” from Turn Blue. They also performed a cover of Edwyn Collins’ 1994 hit, “A Girl Like You,” as a web exclusive.  4. New Lorde song coming on Monday Lorde tweeted on Monday that her single, “Yellow Flicker Beat,” for the upcoming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 soundtrack will be released on Monday and included a the single’s artwork. Lorde is also curating the soundtrack for the upcoming movie, which will be released on November 21. 5. “Rivals” Chad Smith and Will Ferrell Cover the Rolling Stones Look-alikes Will Ferrell and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who previously battled in a drum-off for The Tonight Show, joined forces to perform the Rolling Stones’ “Honky Tonk Woman” with Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan, the David Matthew’s Band’s Stefan Lessard, and singer Brandi Carlile. They performed the cover at the University of Washington for Ferrell’s benefit for Cancer for College. 6. Alt-J play their largest show as headliners  Alt-J released their second album, This is Yours, on Tuesday and followed its release with a show for 10,000 fans at London’s Alexandra Palace on Wednesday. They played 17 songs for fans, including a cover of Bill Wither’s “Lovely Day.”  They are currently on track to top the UK album charts with This is Yours. 7. Beck covered “Wah-Wah” for Conan’s George Harrison Week Beck’s 1996 album Odelay was yesterday’s album of the day on the Afternoon BRU, but on Monday, he started George Harrison Week on Conan with a cover of “Wah-Wah,” a track from All Things Must Pass. 8. Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig’s short story surfaces While Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig was a student at Columbia University, he contributed to the school’s literary magazine, Quarto. His biography for the magazine reflects the band’s now well-known quirky sense of humor. The short story, shown below, discusses growth in New York City, a theme still present in Vampire Weekend’s music. 9. Queens of the Stone Age will perform with ex-bassist Nick Oliveri for a Halloween show The Queens of the Stone Age invited their original bassist Nick Oliveri to perform with them again for a Halloween show at The Forum in Los Angeles. Oliveri told NME that he will perform with the band for a six-song encore. He was kicked out of the band in 2004 for his drug use and abuse of his girlfriend. The show will also feature The Kills, JD McPherson, and the Uncontrollable. 10. Monster Energy Drink sued again for using Beastie Boys’ songs In June, the Beastie Boys won $1.7 million lawsuit against Monster Energy Drink for using their music in a promotional video without the permission of the group. On Thursday, Capitol Records and Universal-Polygram International Publishing sued Monster Energy Drink for using the Beastie Boys’ music and seek $1.2 million from the company.
