The Wrap-Up brings you the 5 largest music news stories of the week as well as information about new album and music video releases.

HEADLINES OF THE WEEK

1. Passion Pit announced a new album Earlier this month, Passion Pit frontman Michael Angelakos released a series of demos to his Soundcloud that seemed to be part of a new project called Eastern Shift, causing many to believe that new music from the Massachusetts band was coming soon. Yesterday, the 2012 WBRU Birthday Bash performers released an official teaser for their third album, Kindred, which will be released in April. The album title Kindred was initially announced through an image of Morse code that read: “Kindred I put my hands in the air and my knees to the ground.” Kindred will be Passion Pit’s first album since Gossamer, which came out three years ago.   2. Tom DeLonge is out of Blink-182 It was a tumultuous week for Blink-182, who were caught up in a media-filled “he said, he said” turmoil surrounding the announcement of DeLonge’s departure from the band. On Monday, bassist Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker told Radio.com that DeLonge did not want to work on the band’s new projects:
We were all set to play this festival and record a new album and Tom kept putting it off without reason,” they said. “A week before we were scheduled to go in to the studio, we got an email from his manager explaining that he didn’t want to participate in any Blink-182 projects indefinitely, but would rather work on his other non-musical endeavors. No hard feelings, but the show must go on for our fans.
They also said that Alkaline Trio guitarist and vocalist Matt Skiba would replace DeLonge for the band’s performance at the upcoming Musink Festival. That same day, DeLonge shared his side of the story through an Instagram post that contained the following caption:
To all the fans, I never quit the band. I actually was on a phone call about a blink 182 event for New York City at the time all these weird press releases started coming in… Apparently those releases were ’sanctioned’ from the band. Are we dysfunctional- yes. But, Christ…..
As a response to the Rolling Stone interview in which Barker and Hoppus revealed more details about the tensions in the band and Barker called DeLonge “disrespectful and ungrateful,” DeLonge shared a lengthy “letter to the fans” on his Facebook. In the letter, DeLonge talked about how he tried to “work things out” with Barker and Hoppus at a failed “band summit in Utah.” The letter is filled with details about the band’s communication failures and contractual issues, but DeLonge finished it on a sullen note:
At the end of the day, all of this makes me really sad. Sad for us. Sad for you- that you’re witnessing this immaturity. I know them very well, and their current actions are defensive and divisive. I suppose they’re doing this as a way to protect themselves from being hurt. Like we all do. And even as I watch them act so different to what I know of them to be, I still care deeply for them. Like brothers, and like old friends. But our relationship got poisoned yesterday. Never planned on quitting, just find it hard as hell to commit.
  3. The lineups for the 2015 Coachella sideshows and Forecastle Festival were announced The performers at Coachella-sponsored shows taking place between the festival’s two April weekends were announced on Tuesday. It includes WBRU artists Cage the Elephant, Modest Mouse, My Morning Jacket, Knox Hamilton, Cold War Kids, the Gaslight Anthem, Alvvways, and Portugal. The Man.   4. Jack White brought out the Raconteurs and Loretta Lynn for his Nashville show For his new hometown Nashville, Jack White reunited the Raconteurs at his show at the Bridgestone Arena. The band performed their hits “Salute Your Solution” (shown above) and “Steady As She Goes.” He also performed with country star Loretta Lynn, a collaborator and friend of White.    5. Death Cab for Cutie tour dates were released On Tuesday, Death Cab for Cutie released the lyric video for the Smash or Trash champion “Black Sun,” off their upcoming album Kintsugi. They also announced new tour dates for the band, who will make multiple stops through the Midwest and Europe. Unfortunately, there was only one New England date announced and that show will take place on May 9 in Portland, Maine at State Theatre.
