1. The lineups for Boston Calling, SXSW, Bonnaroo, Shaky Knees, Hangout Festival, and Mountain Jam were announced
This week was huge for music festivals, with the lineups for Boston Calling, SXSW, Bonnaroo, Shaky Knees, Hangout Festival, and Mountain Jam all being announced.
Boston Calling will feature
Beck, Pixies, My Morning Jacket, Tame Impala,
St. Vincent,
Vance Joy, TV on the Radio, Gerard Way, Chet Faker, Tove Lo, and
more.
SXSW will have more than 950 bands in attendance, including
Bleachers,
Catfish and the Bottlemen, Will Butler, and Best Coast.
Shaky Knees Music Festival in Atlanta, Georgia will showcase the Strokes, Wilco, Pixies, Tame Impala, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Flogging Molly, Tennis, Interpol, Neutral Milk Hotel, TV on the Radio, Wavves, Best Coast, and many more.
The Hangout Beach, Music, and Arts Festival lineup includes the Foo Fighters, Beck, My Morning Jacket, Foster the People, Paramore, Spoon, TV on the Radio, Phantogram, the Dirty Heads, Vance Joy, Cold War Kids, and Jenny Lewis while the Black Keys are the big name at
Mountain Jam.
2. Matt and Kim announced the release date of their new album
On Tuesday, WBRU Birthday Bash alumni
Matt and Kim announced that their new album,
New Glow, will be released on April 7 on Harvest Records.
New Glow is the duo’s fifth record, their first since
Lightning‘s release three years ago. The first single from
New Glow, “Get It,” is already a
Smash or Trash winner and features the band’s band’s energetic signature sound.
3. Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo keeps receiving packages intended for Incubus
During his appearance on
Larry King Now, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo revealed that he repeatedly receives fan mail meant to go to another frontman: Brandon Boyd of Incubus. “I get these elaborate fan packages, only they’re not for me, they’re for the singer of Incubus, Brandon Boyd,” Cuomo stated. “The bizarre thing is it’s happened at two different houses I’ve lived in over the years.” Watch a confused Cuomo discuss the odd situation above.
4. The upcoming Kurt Cobain documentary got a release date and will contain new recordings
HBO announced that the documentary,
Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, will air on the channel on May 4. The film is directed by Oscar-nominated Brett Morgen and has Cobain’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, on board as an executive producer. According to
Loudwire,
Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck will showcase “his never-before-seen home movies, recordings, artwork, photography, journals, demos, personal archives and songbooks” as well as “previously unheard Cobain originals.”
5. Fall Out Boy announced a summer tour and covered “Uptown Funk”
In anticipation of the release of their sixth album,
American Beauty/American Psycho, (which can now be
streamed in its entirety) Fall Out Boy appeared on BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge and covered “Uptown Funk,” the Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars track that’s topping the
Billboard charts. Overall, Fall Out Boy’s take on the pop track stayed pretty true to the original, but features heavier guitar riffs.
On Thursday, Fall Out Boy announced that they would be co-headlining the Boys of Zummer Tour with Wiz Khalifa. The tour will make stops at over 40 cities, starting on June 10 and ending on August 10. The tour’s New England stops are listed below and
tickets go on sale on June 23 at 10 AM.
