The Wrap-Up brings you the 5 largest music news stories of the week as well as information about new album and music video releases.

HEADLINES OF THE WEEK

1. Walk the Moon perform on TODAY and crack the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100

Less than one week after their sold-out show at Lupo’s and multiple intense rounds of trampoline dodgeball at Sky Zone, Walk the Moon performed “Shut Up and Dance” on TODAY during which frontman Nick Petricca gave Al Roker a high-five and switched a line to “I think [TODAY host] Hoda is my destiny.” “Shut Up and Dance” also grabbed the #9 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart after its initial release six months ago. And if all this good news is making you feel a bit nostalgic for last week, check out our review of the events as well as our Facebook page for tons of awesome photos.

2. Mumford and Sons frontman Marcus Mumford reveals that he’s learning how to “chop up beats”

In an interview with NME, Mumford and Sons frontman Marcus Mumford stated that he is “learning to chop up beats” from producer and rapper 88-Keys, who has worked with Kanye West, Jay-Z, Mos Def, and Talib Kweli. Mumford shared that he grew up listening to rap and that his interest in the genre has recently resurfaced:
I went to that Kanye gig in London recently, and I grew up listening to Jurassic 5 and Nas. I’ve been getting into that again recently. I’ve been hanging out with an amazing guy called 88-Keys to learn how to chop-up beats. That’s really fun for me. I don’t really care about how we’re seen right now, because I think the story of this band will be a long one. People are always going to say stuff in the moment, but I hope that the arc of the band will be interesting.

3. Florence and the Machine release video for “Ship to Wreck” and reveal that future shows will have to be ‘stripped back’

Last week Florence and the Machine released “Ship to Wreck,” the fourth single from the forthcoming How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful.  On Monday, they released the ornate video for the track in which Florence Welch faces peril from another (blonder) version of herself who creates chaos around her relationships. Unfortunately, the next day Welch stated in a Facebook post that she had broken her foot while leaping off the stage at Coachella this past weekend and will consequently have to make upcoming shows “stripped back.” However, she maintains an optimistic perspective, stating, “[How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful] was so much about making something from what was broken, so lets see what we can do with this.” We wish her a quick recovery!

4. New Joywave and Passion Pit Albums are now streaming

Passion Pit’s Kindred and Joywave’s How Do You Feel Now? are both officially released on April 21, but this week the two bands made their respective albums available for streaming on iTunes and Spotify respectively.

5. Foo Fighters announce Record Store Day show

In February we shared that Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl would serve as the 2015 Record Store Day Ambassador and on Wednesday the Foo Fighters announced that they would return to Grohl’s hometown of Warren, Ohio for an intimate show at Record Connection. Grohl previously declared that he “found [his] calling in the back bin of a dark, dusty record store” and with this show, his career will be able to go full circle.
