The Wrap-Up brings you the 5 largest music news stories of the week as well as information about new album and music video releases. This week: high school revenge, Kurt Cobain’s first solo singles, a rockstar at a potluck, lawsuit rumors, and a companion album.

1. Dave Grohl gets final word in battle of the bands

WMC Action News 5 – Memphis, Tennessee We all have that one person (or five) from high school that we still kind of hate. You work to get your post-school life together in the hopes of showing up at your next high school reunion way more successful and happier than your old classmates. While we all have our own form of that fantasy, you could probably say that Dave Grohl actually pulled it off. While Grohl was in ninth grade, he lost his school’s battle of the bands competition to classmate Chet Lott. Despite the high school rivalry, Grohl and Lott don’t appear to have any bad blood and Grohl even performed a duet with him at the Foo Fighters’ Memphis show on Wednesday. They performed “Under Pressure,” originally by David Bowie and Queen, and according to WMC Action News, Lott stated, “I may have won the battle, but you won the war.”  

2. Official Kurt Cobain singles and tracklist released

While there’s plenty of debate and controversy surrounding leaked music, we can all agree that there’s nothing like an official release that’s polished and packaged to be a gift to our ears. This week, we were given the official versions of Kurt Cobain’s cover of the Beatles’ “And I Lover Her” and his demo for “Sappy,” a Nirvana rarity. We had an early version of Cobain’s take on “And I Love Her” in April, but it was quickly taken off the internet. It has been twenty-one years since Cobain’s passing and these two official releases are his first solo singles. You can pick up the 7″ containing the two tracks on Nov. 20. However, you only have to wait until Nov. 13 to grab a copy of Montage of Heck: The Home Recordings, the soundtrack to the HBO Cobain documentary. Last week we gave you the rumored tracklist for the album, but Montage of Heck director Brett Morgen released the soundtrack to the deluxe edition on Wednesday. 3. Jack White attends suburban potluck

This picture is incredible. My sister texted it to me. Listen to this. My mom helps put on a neighborhood potluck in front of my childhood home. Our little dead-end street is populated primarily with older and quiet people. The houses are modest and suburban. My neighborhood has been doing this potluck for over a decade. At the bottom of our street, there is a large gated historic home shrouded in trees. We've never really spotted that neighbor. But we have from time to time heard guitar coming from the garage. This year, without warning, the occupant decided to come mingle with the neighbors. Of course many of them had no idea who he was. "Jack White? nice to meet you." You may think you’ve been to a really good potluck, but you probably didn’t have a rockstar as a fellow attendee. Jack White recently attended a suburban potluck in Nashville. The potluck is an annual tradition for the neighborhood and despite all the incredible music White has given us for over 10 years, he was practically unrecognized at the event. Jedediah Jenkins, whose mother contributes to the organization of the event, revealed that White lives in a “large gated historic home shrouded in trees” and that “from time to time” lucky neighbors can hear “guitar coming from the garage.” At the potluck, White cordially introduced himself to his neighbors and “apologized for traveling so much and missing out over the years.” For the record, Jack White, you are always welcome to Providence potlucks.  

4. Hozier and Chilly Gonzales resolve issue surrounding an “unfair inferral”

Rumors circulated this week that Hozier filed a lawsuit against Canadian musician Chilly Gonzales after he claimed that “Take Me to Church” ripped off Feist’s “How Come You Never Go There” in his YouTube series Pop Music Masterclass. However, Hozier released a statement on Facebook claiming that “there are no hard feelings” and that they are “moving on.”  

5. Beach House to release new album next week
