Best of Exposure: July 7-10 Spoon- Do You It’s been four years since Transference, and Spoon is releasing another album! Look out for They Want My Soul, set for release on August 5th. Here’s the first taste of what we can look forward to. Dirty Heads- End Of The World Listen to my interview with Jared of The Dirty Heads HERE! Their new album, Sound of Change, is definitely a new sound for the band. They traded in Matisyahu’s vibes for Tech N9ne’s beats, and the new direction seems to really be working. Sylvan Esso- Coffee NPR calls them “one of 2014’s most captivating bands,” and they were cool enough to record this for WBRU’s Exposure. They’re definitely a band to watch. Much like drinking actual coffee, I recommend listening to this song while you’re doing work. Unlike drinking actual coffee, I do not recommend listening to this song if you’re trying to stay up or pump up. Alt-J- Hunger of the Pines Poor Alt-J had to face the challenge of making a successful sophomore album after the magnum opus that was An Awesome Wave. Will This Is All Yours hold up in comparison? We’ll have to see when it comes out on September 22nd. All I know is that they’ve already surprised me twice– once by sampling Miley Cyrus on “Hunger of the Pines” and twice by channeling the Black Keys on “Left Hand Free.” I also happen to like surprises. Nightmare and the Cat- Undercover Produced by Eric Valentine (known for producing Queens of the Stone Age, Taking Back Sunday, Third Eye Blind, Good Charlotte, …) the Simple EP gives an interesting twist on the standard 5-piece band from Britain format. They just wrapped a tour with Bastille and are back on the road with Neon Trees and Smallpools now. Also the lead singer’s name is Django. Kitten- G# The lead singer, Chloe Chaidez, was in her first LA punk band when she was 10. By 12 she was openning for Midlake, Band of Horses, and Connor Oberst. She’s had a lot of time to get good at what she does, and it shows. Delta Spirit- From Now On Their newest album, Into the Wide, is set to come out on September 9th and they’re going on tour all over the west coast this fall to support it. If you read this post in time and don’t mind the drive, they’ll be playing a free show in Brooklyn tomorrow (July 12th). Night Terrors of 1927- Dust and Bones Very trendy and ever Urban Outfitters-y, you can stay up to date on this band by checking their tumblr. The Bamboos- Avenger The Bamboos are an Australian funk band, not to be confused with The Bamboos, an Australian rock band. Unless they are the rock band and The Bamboos are the funk band… but what about the Filipino indie band, Bamboo? The Griswolds- Beware the Dog This song was made for summer; check out their band camp to see Magic Man’s remixes from their EP.
