Today, Senator Bernie Sanders endorsed Secretary Hillary Clinton at a rally in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. This move is an effort to unify the Democratic Party and bring Sander’s supporters to Clinton’s side.
Reception to the endorsement has been mixed so far, nationally and here in Rhode Island. One local supporter of the endorsement, Jackie Miller, says the move will strengthen Clinton’s campaign.
“I think that in the face of what kind of rhetoric Trump is spewing, I think that it’s really important for unity,” Miller said. “And, it’s awesome that Bernie is supporting Hillary.”
Some reception has not been as positive, however, and many Democrats are reluctant to leave Sanders to support Clinton.
