The Wrap-Up brings you the 5 largest music news stories of the week as well as information about new album and music video releases.

HEADLINES OF THE WEEK

1. Modest Mouse release a new album and music video

Following the release of several singles since February, Modest Mouse have finally released Strangers to Ourselves. They accompanied its release with their first TV performance in 6 years on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Today, they released the music video for “Lampshades on Fire,” which juxtaposes shots of the band performing with surreal and unusual images. For instance, at one point a man’s tongue is seized by a mouse trap. Check it out for yourself and see if you can make sense of it.

2. Matt & Kim want YOU in their next music video

Matt and Kim released a video for their new upbeat track “Can You Blame Me,” but preceded the video by stating that this is not the true music video. The real music video will come from fan submissions that include tablet-displayed videos of Matt & Kim singing the track. Fans should submit stuff that is “really weird and fun” and they’ll tweet the most “badass ones” and compile them into one final, official music video for “Can You Blame Me.”

3. Death Cab for Cutie release a new single

Death Cab for Cutie released “Little Wanderer” on Monday as the fourth single from their upcoming album Kintsugi. “Little Wanderer” follows “Black Sun,” “No Room in Frame,” and “The Ghosts of Beverly Drive.” The muted track is wistful as ever, with a simple chorus that frames the question, “You’re my wanderer, little wanderer, won’t you wander back to me?”

4. Blur release new music

Last month, Blur announced that they are planning the release of their first album in 12 years, their eighth overall album. The upcoming album, The Magic Whip, will be released on April 28 and today, they released a new track from it. “There Are Too Many of Us” is an introspective song that’s very reminiscent of David Bowie. The song’s music video is simple and features the band performing in what appears to be a practice space.

5. Smallpools stream new album & perform on Late Night with Seth Meyers

On Tuesday, Exposure artist Smallpools allowed their debut album, LOVETAP!, to stream on Spotify and performed their catchy single “Karaoke” on Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote it. LOVETAP! will be officially released next Tuesday and you can catch Smallpools live on May 9 at the Middle East Downstairs in Cambridge, MA.
